Shipyard workers' union: 'We are in for a very bumpy ride'

14 November 2013 Last updated at 10:56 GMT

Scottish shipyard workers have been meeting with union officials regarding the job losses at BAE's Govan, Scotstoun and Rosyth sites.

About 800 jobs will be lost at the Scottish yards and almost 1,000 will go in Portsmouth where shipbuilding is to end.

Jamie Webster, GMB union convener, told BBC News: "On the plus side, redundancies are scheduled over three years which will ease the pain slightly.

"On the down side, some of the sections are getting hit very, very quickly."

Mr Webster said a trawl for volunteers for redundancy would start on Monday.
