13 August 2013 Last updated at 11:40 BST

What is it like to be on the streets, asking people to give you money?

BBC Good Morning Scotland has been looking at the subject of begging on Scotland's streets.

Aberdeen City Council has called for a ban on the practice and is carrying out a consultation with its counterparts in Glasgow on the issue.

BBC reporter Huw Williams has been talking to two people begging on the streets in Glasgow city centre.

Joseph, who is 47, said: "My wife died two years ago and I was evicted from the house."

Sandra, 42, says she has been begging for almost 14 years: "It is just a way to try and live."
