Man hit by taxi after fall in road in High Blantyre

A 39-year-old man was seriously injured when he was hit by a taxi after he fell on to a road in South Lanarkshire.

The private hire taxi struck the man on Main Street in High Blantyre at about 21:45 on Friday.

The injured man was taken to hospital in East Kilbride, where his condition was described as serious.

Police Scotland's Sgt John Tait said: "We're trying to piece together the man's movements and ultimately find out how he came to be lying on the road."

He added: "We do know that two young boys were at the scene, and it is believed that they may have seen the man fall into the roadway shortly before being struck by the private hire taxi.

"I would appeal to the young boys, who are believed to be around 10 years of age, and their parents, to come forward to police as they may be able to provide us with information that could assist with our enquiry."
