Unesco biosphere award for Dumfries and South Ayrshire

South-west Scotland may not seem to have much in common with America's Grand Canyon or Ayers Rock in Australia but all three now share the same international environmental status.

Part of Dumfries and Galloway and South Ayrshire has been designated a "biosphere reserve" by Unesco.

The award recognises "outstanding natural landscapes" around the world.
