Girl, nine, attacked with bottle

A nine-year-old has been treated in hospital after being struck on the head with a bottle on her way back from a supermarket in Glasgow.

Police said the girl was walking alone on Craigton Road in Govan at about 18:00 on Friday when she was attacked from behind by a man.

He made off in the direction of the Drumoyne housing estate.

The girl was helped by members of the public before being treated in hospital for a head injury.

Police said the attacker was wearing a grey tracksuit and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Det Insp Scott McMillan said: "This was an unprovoked attack on an innocent young girl who was simply making her way home from the local shop.

"We are continuing extensive inquiries and would like to reassure the local community we are doing all we can to identify the person responsible."
