Arrests over Aberdeen, Rangers and Celtic football violence

Police raids in Aberdeen were part of the morning operation

Ten people from across the north east of Scotland and Fife have been arrested in connection with football violence.

The dawn raids at a number of addresses were carried out by Grampian and Strathclyde police forces.

The majority of the arrests were related to trouble involving Aberdeen supporters before the game against Rangers at Ibrox earlier this year.

Two arrests were linked to violence on Aberdeen's Union Street last Saturday when Aberdeen played Celtic.

Eight of the men were arrested during raids at addresses in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, the other two were in Fife.

'Clear message'

Seven of those detained are suspected of being involved in trouble before the Rangers versus Aberdeen match in January.

Two police officers were injured in the clashes.

About 35 officers from the Grampian and Strathclyde forces were involved in the morning operation.

Grampian Police Ch Supt Adrian Watson said: "These arrests should send out a clear message to the handful of people intent on using football as a platform to commit acts of violence that behaviour of this type will not be tolerated in any shape or form."
