Cyclist Sir Chris Hoy 'still in training after crash'

Hoy was knighted after winning three gold medals at the Beijing Olympics

Olympic cycling champion Sir Chris Hoy has reassured fans that a car crash in Manchester has not affected his preparation for the upcoming European Championships.

The four-time gold medallist was turning into a main road in the city when another vehicle crashed into him.

The Edinburgh-born cyclist's agent said he was not hurt in the collision, which happened on Thursday.

He said the 34-year-old was training full-time for November's championships.

Hoy pulled out of the Commonwealth Games, held in Delhi in October, because it clashed with the championships, which now count as a qualifier for London 2012.

His spokesman Charlie Reid said: "Everyone is very relieved that Chris was not hurt in the car accident in Manchester, and he is continuing with full-time training in preparation for the start of the season.

"Chris was slowly edging forwards to turn right into a main road when the front of his car was hit from the right by a car that had overtaken the queue of stationary traffic by driving on the chevron area.

"The driver of the other car apologised to Chris and admitted it was his fault."

Hoy was knighted after winning sprint, team sprint and keirin gold medals in Beijing two years ago.
