A former senior adviser to David Cameron has appeared in court in connection with making and possessing indecent images of children.

Patrick Rock spoke only to confirm his name and address at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

Mr Rock has been charged with three counts of making indecent photographs of children, and one count of possessing indecent images of children.

He was bailed to appear at Southwark Crown Court on 17 July.

The charges relate to more than 60 images, all described as category C - the lowest on the scale.

The conditions of bail are that his passport should be retained by police, he should not apply for other travel documents, and should maintain contact with a welfare officer.
