The English have not been fighting their corner, as the nation had charges for prescriptions, residential care and student loans, which were cheaper or free in other parts of the UK, said Robin Tilbrook.

The English Democrat chairman was asked how its policies might be affected by an independent Scotland and the rise of UKIP as the party launched its campaign for the local and European elections on May 22.

After they watched the party's campaign theme tune, he told Jo Coburn on the Daily Politics that the people of England were "waking up to the idea of being English".
