Former cabinet minister and veteran left-wing campaigner Tony Benn has died at home, his family has said.

The 88-year-old former Labour MP had been seriously ill.

Speaking exclusively to Channel 4 News, Mr Benn left a short message to be broadcast after his death.

In it he paid tribute to his family and jokingly said of the recording "I'll check that on transmission".
