Today presenter James Naughtie tells guests to shut up

14 August 2013 Last updated at 09:31 BST

Today presenter James Naughtie asked two guests to "shut up, just for a second" as they debated the record of Labour leader Ed Miliband, who is returning to work after his summer holiday.

The Radio 4 presenter was speaking to Times columnist Jenni Russell and Sunny Hundal, who writes a blog on the Liberal Conspiracy site, as their debate became a bit too heated for the presenter with the pair talking over each other.

Mr Naughtie said: "Look, will you two shut up, just for a second, we are trying to have a civilised discussion here."
