Why 'insulting' words and behaviour are no longer a crime
The crime of "insulting" someone through words or behaviour is to be scrapped after pressure from the House of Lords.
The law once led to the arrest of a student who asked a mounted police office whether his horse was gay.
Home Secretary Theresa May confirmed to MPs that the government would not seek to overturn a Lords amendment scrapping the ban.
The former Director of Public Prosecutions Lord Macdonald told BBC Radio 5 live Victoria Derbyshire that it was a "good day for free speech".
