BBC Trust chairman in frosty exchange at committee session

The chairman of the BBC Trust, Lord Patten, has denied accusations by an MP that he took the job because he thought he would "get paid a decent amount of money for not doing a lot of work."

Lord Patten was answering questions about a £450,000 pay-off to former director general George Entwistle, by MPs on the Culture, Media and Sport Committee, when he came under fire from Conservative MP Philip Davies.

Lord Patten also clashed with Mr Davies when the MP asked how many hours he spent at the BBC - saying it was reported he had up to 13 other "jobs" while he was "presiding over the shambles at the BBC."
