Andrew Mitchell: Police officer 'has accepted apology'

Chief Whip Andrew Mitchell has made a brief statement denying claims he used the term "plebs" in an argument with a police officer.

The Tory chief whip has apologised to police after being prevented from cycling through the main gate of Downing Street last week.

He said that the police officer involved had accepted his apology and that he hoped a "line can be drawn under it there".
