G4S and Olympic security staffing: Patrick Mercer MP
Members of his former regiment who have been handed P45s will be sent from active service in Afghanistan to carry out Olympic security at tennis games before they are fired, says Conservative MP Patrick Mercer.
He spoke about the staffing problems with G4S and said: "Thank God we have got an Army, and navy and air force that can react to government plans at short notice and capably."
Home Secretary Theresa May said security will not be compromised after it emerged 3,500 extra troops would be needed after the government found out on Wednesday that contractor G4S did not have enough trained staff.
