Hundreds of thousands of public sector workers across the UK are set to go on a 24-hour strike to protest against the government's plans to change their pensions.

Ministers confirmed they would press ahead with the reforms in the Queen's Speech.

Home Office Minister Nick Herbert described the strike as ''unnecessary and futile'' and said the proposals for pensions are fair.
