Foreign Secretary William Hague: Results within normal range
Labour has made major gains in the local elections in England and Wales, on a night of heavy losses for the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats.
Speaking on BBC Breakfast, the Foreign Secretary, William Hague, said it was not unusual for the party in power to be punished by voters, but said Labour's showing was unconvincing.
