Cameron: no 'bargain' with Murdoch over BSkyB

David Cameron has rejected claims there was a "grand deal" to approve News Corporation's takeover of BSkyB in return for government support from Rupert Murdoch's newspapers.

The Prime Minister admitted he had spent "too much time" courting newspaper proprietors in order to get his "message across", but claimed he held "many fewer" meetings with influential figures in the press than both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.

Mr Cameron also voiced his support for the Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, though he agreed with the criticism that Mr Hunt's political advisor, Adam Smith, had acted improperly towards News International.
