Alex Salmond: 'We want political independence'

Help

First Minister Alex Salmond is to argue that England stands to benefit from an independent Scotland when he delivers the Hugo Young lecture in London.

The SNP leader will then return to Scotland on Wednesday to make public his plans for a referendum on independence.

Mr Salmond has already said he wants to hold the referendum vote in the autumn of 2014.

He told the BBC's political editor Nick Robinson he was confident of winning.
