Baroness Meacher on government's Lords defeat

Help

The government has suffered a series of defeats in the Lords over its controversial welfare reforms.

Planned restrictions on the employment support allowance, affecting cancer patients and the disable, were overturned by peers considering the Welfare Reform Bill.

One of the amendments on which the government was defeated came from the independent crossbencher Baroness Meacher.

She spoke to BBC News about the significance of the defeats.
