David Willetts explains university fee plans

11 May 2011 Last updated at 12:48 BST

Universities Minister David Willetts explained his "imaginative" plans for admissions after a day of headlines suggesting richer families could pay for places.

He said there were no such plans, but Jon Sopel pressed him to explain why the government took hours to deny the story - after they listened to a series of BBC radio news broadcasts as the story unfolded through the day.

Labour's Lord Falconer offered an opposition view on the confusion over the coalition plans.
