Philip Davies and Jonathan Aitken on prison numbers

Help

Philip Davies MP claims fellow Conservative backbenchers will rebel against a government plan to jail fewer prisoners being announced by Justice Secretary Ken Clarke.

He wants more people to be sent to prison and said of the government proposals: "For me this is unacceptable and I can't stomach this."

Former Conservative MP Jonathan Aitken, who was jailed for perjury, claims the plan being put forward has been shown to work in other parts of the world. Speaking about his time in prison, he said: "I have learned a lot".
