Michael Gove announces 16 new free schools to be set up

Education Secretary Michael Gove has said there will be only 16 "free schools" in England set up initially, despite 700 expressions of interest.

He said it was "well in excess" of his hopes. Free schools can be set up by parents or other groups, are state-funded but free from government control.
