lisfannon Local councillors have said that other people were in the house at the time

A man in his 40s has been shot in the legs in Londonderry.

The shooting happened shortly after 22:00 BST on Monday at Lisfannon Park.

He was shot in the leg three times with a shotgun. It is believed the victim was in the front room of a house when it happened.

He was taken hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

SDLP councillor Sean Carr said he understands a number of masked men entered the house.

"I got a call last night that a man was shot here.

"I believe there were other family members there when it happened.

"We don't want this on our doorsteps."

Sinn Féin councillor Patricia Logue condemned the attack.

"There are other ways of dealing with issues in the community," she said.

"We do not need to be shooting people in this city."
