A 22-year-old woman has been jailed for three years for stabbing a woman several times during a drunken row.

Donna Marie McKeefrey, who's address was given as care of Hydebank prison, showed no reaction when she was sentenced at Londonderry Crown Court on Friday.

The attack happened in December 2011 in the victim's home in Barnewall Place in Derry after the two women had been drinking together.

Following an argument, McKeefrey grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the woman several times.

The victim was treated for puncture wounds and lacerations to her head, neck, legs, abdomen and arms.

Sentencing McKeefrey, the judge said she had shown no remorse nor insight into the effect the knife attack had on her victim.

He said McKeefrey had nine previous convictions, had a propensity to use violence when drunk and had a history of failing to comply with court orders.

The judge jailed McKeefrey for three years. She will serve five years on licence when she is released.

He said he had extended the period on licence from three years to five in order to protect the public from her when she is released from prison.
