Londonderry man is charged with child sex offences

A 23-year-old man has appeared at Londonderry Magistrates' Court charged with committing a total of 29 sex offences against a female child over a 10-year period.

The charges include rape, gross indecencies, indecent assaults on a child and sexually touching a child.

The defendant replied "no" when asked if he had anything to say in reply to the charges.

He was released on continuing bail until until 11 January.

District Judge Terrence Dunlop said that because of the familial nature of the charges, the complainant was entitled to a lifetime anonymity order and he said that the defendant, because of the nature of the charges, could also not be named.
