Londonderry man pleads guilty to heroin charges

A Londonderry man has pleaded guilty to possessing heroin, ecstasy and another drug after he was searched by police in Magherafelt earlier this year.

Nigel Martin Stewart, 38, whose address was given as the Simon Community in Derry appeared at Londonderry Crown Court on Tuesday.

He also pleaded guilty to possessing 62 ecstasy tablets on the same date. The court heard that Mr Stewart has been a drug addict for the last 20 years and has 19 previous drugs convictions

Sentencing was adjourned to enable him to complete a drugs rehabilitation course.

Judge Piers Grant warned him he will be randomly tested for drugs until he is sentenced and if he failed he would go to jail.
