'Terrified' worker threatened at gunpoint during robbery

A shop worker in Londonderry said she feared she would never see her son again after she was threatened at gunpoint during a robbery.

Christine McGinley was working in the convenience store in Mountjoy Terrace on Sunday afternoon when a man armed with a gun entered the premises.

He threatened her and escaped with a sum of money along with another man who had been standing outside the shop.

"All I could think of was my wee boy and would I ever see him again?"

"I was in the storeroom getting stock to restock the shelves, and I heard the door open and close," explained Ms McGinley.

"I walked out and he was behind the counter, I don't know if I spoke, it's all kind of a blank.

"All I remember is the gun being put to my face.

"I froze on the spot, and he ran past me.

"It was terrifying, absolutely terrifying.

"When the door opens and closes now I'm constantly looking to see who it is.

"You just don't know what's going to happen in a situation like that, I always thought I would be a hero, but definitely not. My life's worth more."
