Victim weeps as man admits abusing her over ten-year period

Bishop Street Court House

A 41-year-old man's admitted sexually abusing a girl over a ten-year period from 1985.

The defendant, who cannot be named, had initially denied several of the charges against him, but was rearraigned at Londonderry Crown Court on Monday.

His victim wept as he pleaded guilty to seven counts of indecently assaulting a female child, and six charges of gross indecency against the same child.

The defendant's bail was revoked, and he will be sentenced in January.

His barrister said his client requested bail be revoked because he accepted the inevitability of a custodial sentence and he wanted to start that process today.

He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders' register.

The length of time he will be on the register will be determined when he is sentenced.
