Singer-songwriter Pixie Lott has been confirmed for the Peace One Day concert in Ebrington Square in Londonderry.

The concert on 21 June marks the start of the London 2012 Festival and will be the first major event to be staged at the newly-opened parade ground.

Dublin singer Imelda May, indie-rockers Guillamots, Derry's Wondervillains and Newton Faulkner will be performing.

The event also marks the three-month countdown to Global Truce, a campaign which promotes peace.

Founder of Peace One Day Jeremy Gilley described the festival as a historic event.

"We're very honoured, what a wonderful city to open the cultural Olympics," he said.

"It's going to be amazing. There will be a big fireworks display as Pixie does her final song - and Jude Law will be hosting.

"For us it's not about ticket sales, it's about the show and the city itself.

"Whoever is there will have a great time."

The culmination of the Global Truce campaign will be another Peace Once Day concert in London on 21 September, the day of Global Truce and World Peace Day.
