Claudy attack victim to receive £2000 compensation

A 40-year-old man has been ordered to pay £2,000 pounds in compensation to a man he attacked.

Damian Friel of Pinewoods Crescent in Claudy admitted assaulting the man on July 12 2010.

Londonderry Magistrate's Court was told that Friel punched his victim to the ground, kicked and then jumped on his ankle causing a hairline fracture.

District Judge Barney McElholm said it was a 'disgraceful attack' which was totally unprovoked.
