Derry City Cemetery: Controlled explosion carried out

A controlled explosion has been carried out in Derry City Cemetery following the discovery of a weapon on Wednesday evening.

A security operation is continuing on the Lone Moor Road.

The police have not released any details about the the weapon.

SDLP Councillor John Boyle has said that this is not the first time that the city cemetery has been targeted.

On Wednesday, a number of people were also moved from their homes in Ballyclare, County Antrim, because of a security alert.

Police said "nothing untoward" was found and residents who were moved from their homes had returned.
