A couple and their three children have escaped injury in a gun attack in north Belfast.

A man called at a house in Velsheda Court about 22:00 BST on Wednesday and fired a number of shots when the man who was in the house opened the door.

None of the shots struck the man, but he and his family were left badly shaken.

The gunman smashed the windscreen of a car parked at the property before running away.

Insp Ian Lockyer said: "The occupant was fortunately not struck by any of the shots.

"The suspect then smashed the windscreen of a car parked at the property and made off on foot from Velsheda Court through an alleyway to Cranbrook Court where it is believed he may have got into a white coloured car to leave the area."
