The cost of car and motorcycle theory tests in Northern Ireland is to fall by £5 in October.

The cost of the test will be reduced from £30 to £25, Environment Minister Mark H Durkan said.

In October 2015, the minister plans to reduce the cost again by £2, so that learners will be charged £23.

The reduction follows new contracts with test providers. The savings have been passed on to drivers.

"By agreeing new contract arrangements for the delivery of theory tests I have secured significant cost savings," Mr Durkan said.

"I believe it is both right and proper that I pass these savings on to our customers.

"It is my intention to ensure that my department's services are delivered in such a way that they meet customers' needs at the least cost possible."
