Man injured in west Belfast shooting

A man has been injured in a shooting in west Belfast.

The victim, who is in his 30s, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg in the attack in Ardmonagh Gardens in the Turf Lodge area of the city.

The shooting was reported to police at about 22:30 BST on Tuesday. The victim's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A paramedic vehicle responding to the shooting was hit by at least one object thrown on the Whiterock Road.

"The side window of the vehicle was shattered and fortunately the paramedic was protected by the protective film used to hold the shattered glass in place," the ambulance service said.

"The potential for a much more serious incident is obvious for all to see. The vehicle was travelling at high speed and the driver could have lost control and been involved in a collision which could have cost lives."

The service said it was the sixth attack on its crews in the last 10 days.
