Author Colin Bateman's son Matthew found in south Belfast

The 18-year-old son of County Down author Colin Bateman, who had been missing since last Friday, has been found by police in south Belfast.

On Wednesday, his father issued an appeal for help to find his missing son Matthew.

In an appeal on Facebook, Colin Bateman author wrote: "Although he is 18, he has been unwell recently and we're very concerned about him."

He was found in the Malone Road area on Thursday.

It is not thought he had suffered any injuries.

Colin Bateman, who is from Bangor, is a former journalist who became an author in 1994.

His debut novel, Divorcing Jack, won a Betty Trask Award and was adapted into a 1998 film starring David Thewlis.

His book Murphy's Law was adapted from the BBC television series of the same name (2001-2007), starring James Nesbitt.

He has written several novels, screenplays and books for children.
