Couple tied up by armed intruders in east Belfast robbery

A man and woman have been assaulted and tied up in their home by an armed gang in east Belfast.

Three men forced their way into the couple's house on the Upper Newtownards Road shortly after 22:30 BST on Sunday.

Police said one of the intruders had "a suspected handgun". They stole a large quantity of jewellery.

The couple were treated in hospital for injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.
