Two men are being questioned about a fatal attack on a man in Dublin.

Jason Saunders, 21, was found with serious head injuries at Fassaugh Avenue, Cabra, close to where he lived, at about 07:30 GMT on Tuesday.

He was taken to the Mater Hospital where he died.

Police believe he was beaten with a golf club after leaving a party at a flat near his home. A 23-year-old man is being questioned on suspicion of murder.

A 25-year-old man is being held on suspicion of withholding information.

The police said a number of people arrived at the party in the early hours of Tuesday. They have appealed to witnesses to contact them and particularly want to talk to a taxi driver who left people to Fassaugh Avenue.

GardaĆ­ believe Mr Saunders died because of a drunken row.

They are gathering CCTV footage from local businesses as part of their investigation and a flat has been searched.

The area was cordoned off for a forensic examination. The state pathologist's office has been informed.
