A man has appeared in court accused of a series of arson attacks near his home in County Antrim.

Daniel Weir is alleged to have set fire to an oil tank located close to his address at Broadlands Gardens, Carrickfergus, at the weekend.

The 19-year-old faces five charges of arson with intent to endanger life.

He is also accused of three counts of placing an article causing a bomb hoax, and a further charge of communicating false information about a hoax device.

All of the alleged offences occurred in the same area of the town between September 2013 and March 2014.

A detective constable involved in the investigation told Belfast Magistrates' Court she believed she could connect Mr Weir to the charges.

No questions were put to her and bail was not sought.

Mr Weir was remanded in custody to appear again by video-link on 14 April.
