There has been another arson attack on premises formerly owned by bankrupt businessman Séan Quinn.

A 4x4 jeep was driven into the front of the Quinn Packaging plant in Ballyconnell, County Cavan, and set on fire.

Irish police said there were no injuries and firefighters brought the fire under control.

The offices are now part of the rebranded Aventas group.

It is understood the vehicle was driven through a wooden fence at a neighbouring petrol station and down a footpath in order to gain access to the site.

Aventas chief executive, Paul O'Brien, described the attack as "reckless in the extreme" and said: "It was only by good fortune that no one was injured."

Sabotage

The arson attack follows reports that Aventas are considering an offer to sell the Quinn Packaging plant.

Last month, three quarries owned by the Lagan Group were attacked following news Aventas were in the process of selling Quinn Rooftiles to Lagan Cement.

Mr O'Brien said: "It is very evident that there is a common thread to these attacks. These reckless acts of sabotage are in some extraordinary way deemed acceptable by those who would like to pave the way for the return of the former owner.

"We are planning to meet the governments, both north and south of the border, to agree on measures to stop these attacks and bring the perpetrators, and, more importantly, their sponsors, to justice."

He added that "an impression of lawlessness" was being created that would have a negative impact on the border region.

Attacks

Last month, three quarries owned by the Lagan Group were attacked following news Aventas were in the process of selling Quinn Rooftiles to Lagan Cement.

There have also been a series of similar arson attacks on properties formerly owned by the Quinn family, whose wide range of businesses collapsed in 2011.

In January, Séan Quinn condemned an attack in which a bus was set on fire at the entrance of three of this former businesses in Ballyconnell.

In December, a fuel tanker was driven into the Quinn Group headquarters in Derrylin, County Fermanagh and set alight.
