A man in his 20s has been shot in both legs in an attack in Derry.

The shooting took place when two men entered a house in Kerrigan Close in the Brandywell area of the city at about 22:00 GMT on Monday.

The wounded man was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

Sinn Féin councillor Patricia Logue condemned those who carried out the attack and said there was "no justification for this type of action".

"Whatever organisation carried this out, needs to come forward and give a clear explanation for their actions," she said.

"We are in a new era, we are creating a new society for the younger generation and there can be no place for this type of activity."
