Police in Dungannon are investigating allegations of abusive comments sent via Twitter to former footballer Stan Collymore.

Collymore has retweeted some of the offensive messages he received after he suggested Liverpool striker Luis Suarez dived to earn a penalty.

The former England footballer has accused Twitter of not doing enough to stop users sending abusive messages.

One of the tweets reportedly gave the user's location as Dungannon.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Police in Dungannon are investigating abusive comments posted on social media in relation to an individual. Enquiries are continuing."

Twitter has said it takes action when content breaks its rules or is illegal and it had a clear process for working with the police.
