Anthony McKay in court over Warrenpoint attack

A man who is accused of attacking a man as he lay in bed has appeared in court in Newry, County Down.

Anthony John Peter McKay is accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to the man at a house in Warrenpoint, County Down.

The alleged attack took place at a property on Springfield Road at about 01:30 GMT on Friday.

Mr McKay, from Linen Court, Linenhall Street in Armagh, was also charged with possessing a weapon - namely a bottle.

The man who was hurt in the alleged attack is currently being treated in hospital for injuries that are described as non-life threatening.

Appearing at a special sitting of Newry Magistrates' Court, the accused spoke only to confirm that he understood the charges against him.

A detective constable told the court he believed he could connect the 38-year-old plumber to the charges.

As no bail application was lodged with the court, Mr McKay was remanded into custody to appear again via video link on 15 January.
