An object that caused a security alert in Belfast city centre was an elaborate hoax, police have said.

Army bomb experts were sent to Donegall Square West, beside the city hall, on Tuesday morning.

Upper Queen Street and Donegall Square West were closed to traffic and pedestrians.

All streets have re-opened.
