A man arrested in connection with a gun attack on police in north Belfast on Thursday has been released unconditionally.

The 34-year-old was arrested in north Belfast on Sunday, and taken to Antrim police station for questioning.

Three police vehicles came under attack as they travelled along the Crumlin Road, near Brompton Park on Thursday evening. No-one was injured.

Shots were also fired at police in west Belfast on Friday night.

Dissident republicans have been blamed for the north Belfast attack in which Kalashnikov-type weapons were fired.

The police also have re-iterated an appeal about the movements of a car.

They are seeking information on the whereabouts of a silver Volkswagen Passat car, registration number ICZ 9780, between 17:00 GMT and 19:00 GMT on Thursday evening in the Ardoyne area.

Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the Butler Walk, Butler Place, Brompton Park or Herbert Street areas is also asked to contact police.
