Lisburn: Masked men attack elderly couple and steal guns

Saintfield Road The attack happened at about 20:00 GMT on Friday

An elderly couple in their 70s has been attacked and beaten by a gang of masked men who stole two guns from their home in County Antrim.

Police said four men in balaclavas got into the house at Saintfield Road, Lisburn, at about 20:00 GMT on Friday.

They attacked and beat the man, then locked him into a toilet. The gang threatened the woman with a knife and tied her up.

Two legally held firearms and a sum of money were taken.

Police said the man suffered cuts and bruises and the couple were both very shocked at what had happened.

Lisburn DUP councillor Uel Mackin said: "It is sad that we have those thugs in society who, in the darkness of night, decide to break into the home of an elderly couple such as this and rob them, and in the process cause injury and distress.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the couple and their family.

"I would appeal to anyone who saw anything of a suspicious nature on Friday afternoon or evening to report it to the PSNI."
