Joseph Hugh Allen jailed over dissident pipe bomb

A man who admitted possessing a pipe bomb linked to dissident republican terrorism in Londonderry has been jailed for three years.

Joseph Hugh Allen was due to go on trial at Belfast Crown Court but was re-arraigned on the single charge of possession of a pipe bomb.

The 30-year-old from Creggan Broadway, Derry, pleaded guilty to possessing the device between 1 November, 2007 and 15 September, 2011.

He was arrested in August 2012.
