Dungannon house attacked A number of men broke into the house on Friday night

Twelve men have been arrested after a number of men broke into a house in Dungannon on Friday night, ransacked part of it and lit a fire in the hall.

Five men who were in the house in the Springdale area stayed upstairs after the gang broke in at about 21:50 BST.

The gang caused extensive damage downstairs then set light to materials they gathered in the hall.

Police put out the fire when they arrived and later stopped a number of vehicles and arrested 12 men.

The vehicles were stopped at a number of locations after police received descriptions from witnesses.

The 12 men are being questioned on suspicion of aggravated burglary and arson with intent to endanger life.

It is not clear what was behind the incident, but local people have said there have been tensions between some groups of foreign nationals.

Sinn Fein councillor Dominic Molloy said: "What we could be looking at this morning is a massive human tragedy."

"Sinn Fein condemns that outright."

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
