Newry stabbing treated as murder bid

A woman who was detained by police after a man was stabbed in the face in County Down has been re-arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The attack happened on Talbot Street, Newry, at about 18:00 BST on Saturday.

The 37-year-old woman was initially arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing an offensive weapon.

She has now been released on police bail. The man was taken to hospital for treatment but has since been released.
