Teenager charged with murder attempt on friend

Lisburn courthouse Caolan Coleman was refused bail at Lisburn Magistrate's Court

A teenager has been charged with attempting to murder his friend at a house party in Lurgan, County Armagh.

Caolan Coleman, 18, of Castle Lane Lurgan, is accused of attempting to murder his friend, Paul Cassidy, 23.

Mr Cassidy is in a coma in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. He is critically ill but stable.

A court was told Mr Coleman allegedly attacked his friend with a golf club on Thursday leaving him with serious injuries to his head and face.

A solicitor for the accused told Lisburn Magistrate's Court that both men had been drinking and taking substances and both were "quite out of it" at the time of the alleged attack.

Judge Amanda Henderson said it was clearly a "very serious assault".

Bail was refused.
